Ali Garland is a long term travel addict. On her two blogs, Ali’s Adventures and Travel Made Simple, you can read about her adventures around the world- she has now traveled to over 45 countries! Experiencing new cultures, eating local food, and just being in the moment somewhere new is what it’s all about for Ali, and we think that’s a great approach to traveling. Here is a few pictures from a day in Copenhagen with Ali!
After arriving at Copenhagen Downtown Hostel, I settled into my room. I was traveling solo for a few days after a week with a friend and happy to have a room to myself.
I went back downstairs too late to join in the hostel's free dinner, so instead I asked about a pub I passed down the street. The woman behind the check-in counter confirmed that it did in fact have tasty burgers. I chose a bacon guacamole burger with sweet potato fries.
The next morning I wanted to see castles. Since I have a bad habit of getting lost, I decided to check with the staff first to make sure I knew how to get to the train station. Armed with the map they provided me and helpful directions, I was on my way. Kronborg Castle is known for being the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet, but I found Frederiksborg Castle to be more impressive.
I spent my time in the city taking in some of the typical sights. Since the hostel was centrally located, I didn't feel the need to use the metro and instead I enjoyed walking to explore the city. I saw several sights, such as the Hans Christian Andersen statue, Christiansborg Castle, the Church of Our Savior, and the colorful buildings of Nyhavn.
On my last night in Copenhagen, I had dinner with friends and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset over the water before heading back to my comfy bed at the hostel. This was definitely a fun city, and my short visit was not nearly enough time to soak it all in.
Thanks for staying with us Ali, we hope to see you back in Copenhagen soon!
