CPH:DOX Film Festival

A must for all film lovers, CPH:DOX is a renown film festival that breaks boundaries and takes a look at contemporary life through a lens of different voices in society. Founded in 2003, Copenhagen’s international documentary film festival has been showcasing film for audiences for over 20 years, celebrating documentary film as artistic interpretations of contemporary life. Taking place in March each year and including a film market, conference, and Film Lab, CPH:DOX is well recognised on the international stage for documentary film festivals.
CPH:DOX is a festival that aims to increase awareness and engagement in contemporary society, covering topics and interpretations of reality the are relevant to modern society. The film festival honours its core values of curiosity, dialogue, diversity, relevance, creativity, engagement and independence, to bring audiences authentic and innovative film documentaries. - “to understand our shared history as well as our common future.” With cutting-edge films the festival celebrates bold and innovative film making over 11 days.
Not just for film lovers, the festival is perfect for anyone curious about film as a medium or just to take part in one of the events, talks or concerts. Over 125,000 people enjoyed the festival last year!
CPH:DOX is also more than documentary film; there are many events based around the films and themes, including conversations with directors and protagonists, as well as concerts and events based around the documentaries. There is also an initiative to involve youth communities and audiences across Denmark with an expansions of film screenings across the country.
With over 200 independent titles in the screening programme, the cinematic festival is also a competition. 71 of the films are competing, with 56 world premieres, 12 international, and 3 European premiers. As a contemporary festival there are awards for documentaries that use investigative journalism: the F:ACT Award, and also for human rights, New vision, emerging film makers, Nordic regional films, and the Audience award which is publicly voted for. The nominations for competition and the six awards have been made!
The festival is held in over 100 cinemas and cultural centres this year from 19th-30th March as well as streaming online - check out here. Expect more than screenings with events, talks, audiovisual treats, workshops, critiques, and group discussions.
The festival is open from 10am every day for the festival, with cinemas and social areas to screen films, hold events, and meet fellow film fanatics. There are also 54 municipalities across Denmark taking place in the DOX:DANMARK festival.
CPH:DOX supports diversity and creativity, aiming to discover perspectives from diverse backgrounds in society and different voices from around the world.

Highlights of the Film Documentary Programme
Highlights in the programme include “Mr. Nobody Against Putin” which is a Danish /Czech sensational exposé on Russian schools by a teacher, “Fantastic Family” a Danish production from Nicoline Skotte on digging up a family past, a gang history in “Ganger”, a doc on music band Pavement complete with a tribute band performance after, a UK doc from Director Sadie Frost “Twiggy” on the 60’s supermodel in London, “Ellis Park” on composer Warren Ellis in an Indonesian animal shelter creating sounds, and concert film “Ghosts and Robots” from band Den Sorte Skole who will be there for conversation.
