This is unmissable if you’re a fan of all-things Christmassy! Tivoli is famous throughout Copenhagen as traditional historical amusement park right in the centre, and for Christmas it is filled with festive cheer as it’s decorated with winter scenes and snow, and has a traditional market full of gifts. Open from now until New Year’s Eve when there is a big firework show and party, Tivoli is packed full of market stalls, fun fair rides and Christmas trees! Just follow the smell of roasting nuts and hot mulled wine and you’ll find stalls selling delicious traditional Danish food and drinks.
FIREWORK DISPLAYS
There are firework displays 24th, 26th and 30th of December, and for the 25th and 31st there are themed displays of the colours of Christmas.

Hot chocolate, traditional mulled wine with nuts and almonds (Glogg) and spiced warm apple cider are all traditional Christmas drinks here in Denmark. You can also get plenty of spiced hot nuts which are salted and covered in caramel - delicious! If you have a bigger appetite then head to one of the stalls selling hot roasted pork and crackling sandwiches - our favourite!! There are also lots of Christmas sweets such as traditional marzipan and almond sweets, along with toffee apples and plenty of chocolate.
TRADITIONAL MARKET STALLS
Copenhagen is full of festive Christmas markets at this time of year, but none is as impressive (or as festive) as the one in Tivoli! You can buy all kinds of traditional Danish handicrafts such as home made decorations for your Christmas tree or other cute souvenirs. For those wanting to wrap up warm there are hand knitted hats, gloves and scarfs and plenty warm and cosy blankets and rugs. If you’re into sheep skin rugs or reindeer even then here’s the place to get them! There are also plenty of other trinkets for sale that are perfect for gifts.
TRADITIONAL FOOD AND DRINK
We think Copenhagen is one of the best places to celebrate Christmas - with traditional Danish food made for cold weather and a glass of Gløgg - mulled spiced warm wine.
While at Tivoli you can try a variety of different foods - from fine dining meals to tasty roast pork hot sandwiches around the fire! There are different locations and traditional stalls selling sweets and drinks. You can try the hot mulled wine or spiced apple cider, or get a delicious hot chocolate to keep off the cold!
Enjoy the Christmas decorations and step back in time at Tivoli!
