Famous Hostel Ambassador Arrives at Copenhagen Downtown
Stephen “Beaver” Harris, the ambassador for Famous Hostels travelling 51 hostels in 3 months, finally arrived at Copenhagen Downtown!
Welcomed to Denmark from his adventures in Sweden and Norway, he instantly recognised our hostel from our bean bag chill out chairs along the pavement outside. Welcome Beaver! Here's what happened next....
Once he checked in, Beaver admired our famous retro design and the maps in our chill out area before making his way to our colourful bar and enjoying our happy hour - one of the best in Copenhagen!
Cheesecake Eating Competition
Fortunately for Beaver he arrived on the right night for our Cheesecake Eating Competition - it’s famous for the fun, but also a messy business. The rules are - no hands, so you have a lot of people face down in their cheesecake, trying to finish it and win the free beer. Always fun!
Beaver then enjoyed a trip to Mojo bar with his friend Cindie to check out the live music.
Great Hostel Vibe
"I hung out around the Copenhagen Downtown Hostel for much of the afternoon, meeting the staff and other travelers. The hostel has a really good vibe to it.”
Beaver then spent the next day chilling out at the hostel - a favourite of many of our guests! He loved the atmosphere and that there is always music and friendly staff around. He also loved our food. He was happy to meet local Danish people in the bar too - something that is unusual in backpacker bars - but we have lots of local customers in our bar because of the live music every Thursday and Saturday in Copenhagen Downunder, unique atmosphere and good happy hours! It’s a great place to meet and socialise with people from all over the world but also local people.
Balloon Shaving Competition
Beaver was also at our hostel the next night for balloon shaving - as if the cheesecake eating wasn’t messy enough! He watched as balloons were passed around covered in whipped cream and held in the teeth while the partner tried to shave the balloon without popping it. You can imagine the mess of whipped cream every time a balloon popped - sorry Beaver about your tshirt!
Christiania - the Freetown of Copenhagen
Beaver went exploring around Christiania - the alternative ‘freetown’ in Copenhagen that was a former squat in the 70s and is now a self proclaimed autonomous community. It’s famous for a lax attitude to marijuana and therefore has a street “Pusher Street” which is essentially a marijuana market. There are also lots of cool bars around Christiania and live music, and along the lake there are great places to sit and relax and enjoy the view. In winter there’s a great Christmas market here and lots of resident artists mean it has some great exhibition and live art performances.
For his evening Beaver was taken out by our star staff member Emma who showed him a good time in some of the neighbourhood bars. Copenhagen is famous for its nightlife and there are lots of cool places to go from the trendy Meatpacking district to small underground music bars in the art neighbourhood.
Thank you for visiting Beaver! We had a great time, come back again soon!

"All hostels should have giant maps in their lounges. It is smart”
Once he checked in, Beaver admired our famous retro design and the maps in our chill out area before making his way to our colourful bar and enjoying our happy hour - one of the best in Copenhagen!
Cheesecake Eating Competition
"The results were hilarious cheesecake faced people who looked like pecking chickens going at their plates. Everyone in the building was involved in the atmosphere.
It was really fun to watch and cheer on.”
