Our new super cozy basement space is opening in just a little over a month and we are so excited! Today we’re talking to Karin, one of the creatives behind the project. Find out more of what it’s like to design for Copenhagen Downtown and how to make an basement office into a cozy and ‘hyggelig’ hangout space!
Hi Karin! You are one of the people designing the new exciting basement space for us. Tell us a little about the project. Copenhagen Downtown wanted to make the most of the space they have, and had a vision of converting the basement into a space the visitors can use. We wanted it to be an extension of the look and feel that already exists in the hostel (particularly in the bar/reception area), but with a little 'something extra'. At the same time we wanted to make the most of what the basement had to offer, which is raw materials and an industrial look. We feel this suits the young crowd who typically make up the visitors at Downtown.
We understand that it's a huge project and done together with architects from SpaceLab. Which are the things that you're in charge of? ArtRebels were in charge of setting the tone of voice or the look and feel of the place. We have proposed which materials to use, what sort of light to use, what atmosphere the basement could have, and we have proposed themes for the decoration of the place. SpaceLab is now in charge of taking our ideas and executing them - So far it looks amazing and I can’t wait to see the finished result :-)

How would you describe the typical style of Copenhagen Downtown Hostel? American vintage hipster style, mixed with a bit of European Boheme.
