Meet our Lovely Staff member Liv!

What’s the best thing about working at Copenhagen Downtown Hostel?

The best thing for me is working with my coworkers, of course everyone says, ‘yes but you meet new people all the time and it’s a really fun job’ but actually it’s the people that you work with that make the job. You have a lot of fun working behind the bar and at reception but you can also rely on your coworkers. From the first time I was here they were more than just colleagues, they were people I wanted to know and I felt like they wanted to know me as well, so definitely my co-workers.

What’s your favourite drink in Happy Hour at the hostel?

Tuborg Classic (I don’t like the Christmas one – it doesn’t taste good) I just like the classic one!

What’s your favourite place at the moment to hang out in Copenhagen?

There’s a liquor store in Norrebro
called ‘Shoppen’ which is a really cool place that opened a couple of years ago, it’s some friends of mine that own it. They sell really unique and rare liquors that are often expensive but they have smaller amounts that you can just try. You can just go in and have a taste of lots of different ones and then decide which ones you would like to buy. For example they have a tasting kit of different tequilas and whiskeys and you can decide which ones you would like to buy. They have different brands from around the world – not just usual ones but ones you would never have heard of before and exotic ones. The guys that run it are really knowledgeable so you can try things and ask them about all the different drinks. You can also just grab a beer, they have some tables and you can just relax there – it’s really nice.

What’s your favourite thing about traveling

I guess to see new cultures and find out about them, to see what different places are really like to see if my expectations are right. If they will be as I am expecting, or I guess to see if my preconceptions are correct. When I’m travelling I like to feel at home, like I do in Copenhagen, which sounds strange, but I like to feel comfortable travelling.

Do you think travelling makes you appreciate coming home?

Yes always, every time I go away I’m also happy to come home. I love Copenhagen so it’s always good to return, which is a nice part of travel also.

What do you like about hostels?

I’ve only stayed in a few hostels actually but I love the social aspect of hostels compared to hotels, I think that the value is the atmosphere – the feeling that you can talk to people and people want to talk to you – it’s a really unique thing in a hostel. That’s why the bar in Copenhagen Downtown Hostel is so good because locals come here too for the same reason. There are not a lot of places in Copenhagen where you would share a table with people you don’t know but here you do, which means you talk to people and meet people you wouldn’t normally at a different bar in Copenhagen.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen in the hostel?

There are a few things – I’m still laughing at when me and a colleague got covered in Cayenne Pepper and were sneezing for hours – but the strangest was when a woman was here with 2 guys, and every time one of the guys went to the bathroom she kissed the other guy – but with both guys! She did well keeping them both secret from the other guy! These things happen in Hostels…

Thanks for the interview Liv! We hope you guys enjoyed finding out more about our super staff - check out more on our blog!
