Why Staying in a Hostel is the Best way to Travel on a Budget
So, you want to see the world? Right? You've done your research, booked a flight, downloaded some cool apps, and now you're ready to go and find out what's out there in the big, bad world. But, you don't want to blow all your budget on a lonely hotel, you want to see as much as possible, and you want to meet some awesome new people. So you, my adventurous friend, will want to be staying in a hostel.
The Backpacker Spirit
Since before Woodstock, people have wanted to put a bag on their back and go in search of a good time. We understand it, we do it too. It's great to get out there and see the world - after all, there is so much to see! We know the thrill of arriving in a foreign place, late at night, with nowhere to go and everyone speaking a different language - it's a blast! Luckily you can book us online these days and check in is 24 hour (and we speak lots of languages too). But seriously, if you have a spirit for adventure, you're going to have a much better time staying with a bunch of sociable people from all over the world who are also looking for that same adventure. Makes sense, no? You may have come to see and explore one destination, but with the people you meet from all over the world with different experiences to share with you, you're going to learn a whole lot more.
The Good Old Days
So maybe when someone says 'hostel' you think of some kind of grotty place full of hikers snoring all night long. Times have changed. Mostly. You know we rent iPads at our hostels? And we're very reasonably priced? You know how much people freak out before you tell them there's free wifi in all the building? Hostels aren't what they used to be - now many of them are like a boutique hotel, but great value for money, and with cool decor and even famous live music acts!! You maybe think it will be a bunch of broke students stealing food out of a communal fridge and trying to make a lame spaghetti (well, sometimes this happens still), but we serve FREE communal dinner so you can meet other guests without the awkward moment! We listened to what backpackers want from a hostel now - and build you an extra bar...
Learning to Share
Staying in a hostel means learning how to share with other people. Maybe it's your room, maybe a drink, or maybe a joke! It's good for people to mingle and socialise with each other in real life, not just on social networks, and a hostel is the perfect place to do that. Most people are young and fun and looking to meet like-minded people, or older with some great travel experience and stories to tell. The people you meet in a hostel can end up being your friends for life. Sharing experiences is one of the greatest ways to bond with your fellow human beings. And you will probably find you have lots in common with other hostel guests, because you will all want to see the world and meet cool people! You know there have even been hostel weddings? Yes, dreams can come true.
Feeling at Home
When you're staying at a hostel it's not just a bed and it's not just a cool party either. It's a home from home, a community, a place to lay your head and feel comfortable. Our staff know that, and other guests understand. Everyone needs time to relax and just see a friendly face. Some people just want a place to chill while they're traveling hard around the world, other people want to bring the party on down! (Luckily we have a huge basement bar with live DJs and bands playing and also a quiet corner upstairs.. we try to please everyone!)
